30 Years of Discovering & Nurturing World-Class Talent

As in golf, the people in your organization need great coaches & mentors to be truly world-class. So what does it take to identify and nurture world-class talent?

David Leadbetter has spent more than three decades as one of the world’s foremost golf coaches. He has coached players to 22 Major Championships and over 100 individual worldwide tournament victories. These athletes committed time, energy, and passion to their craft to become champions. They had the guidance of a dedicated coach to help them improve and to focus on strategies for growth. David will share some of his coaching techniques that you can use with the leaders in your business - or that you should look for in your own mentors - that can help you be part of a championship team.

Know Yourself. Lead Yourself. Lead Others.

Effective leadership is grounded in trust. However, you have to build relationships with those you lead and work with in order to facilitate a culture of trust…and it starts with having a relationship with yourself. You have to know yourself in order to lead yourself; a necessary first step before leading others. Learn how to use a two-pronged relationship-based approach for being an effective leader. Rooted in a love of self, you must first develop a relationship with YOU. Who are you? What is it that you value? What is your philosophy in life and thus, your leadership? Second you need to develop a deeper relationship with those around you. Who are they? What is it that they value? Learn how to deepen these relationships through exercises and affective learning so that you can be a high-performing, trusted, and effective leader.

Digital, Innovation, and Transformation: Patterns of Digital Disruption

In this session, you will gain a better understanding of how changing customer behaviors and expectations have shaped three prominent models of digital disruption. This session will stretch your thinking about how SMEs can be disruptors rather than fear or dread digital disruption. Come learn about the value and impact of supply chain digitalization and how can spurn digital business transformation in your organization.

Saving the Oceans One 6-Pack at a Time

From the moment Saltwater Brewery was founded in 2013, they made sure their mission statement came through in everything they did, including the name of the business. Saltwater’s passion was to make quality craft beer and advocate, fund raise, and educate about ocean conservation by working with various Ocean based non-profits. It’s no secret that our oceans are suffering from huge amounts of plastic waste, and Saltwater wanted to find a way that a brewery could help. So Saltwater began development of the Eco 6-Pack Ring (E6PR) – a biodegradable packaging made from the spent grain of the brewing process. It’s safe for animals to ingest and will break apart in the water. As of this year, Saltwater has replaced 100% of their 6-pack packaging with the E6PR. The viral success of the E6PR has led to growth for the company and a way to live out the values on which they were founded. Saltwater’s viral video now has 28 billion global impressions and has brought incredible awareness to the crisis of plastic in our oceans.

Using Activities and Automated Reporting to Track & Manage Customer Experience

Ultimately Ram Products, like almost every company, is a sales company. If we are not selling then we are dying. We need the ability to track all activity which we know leads to sales. Activity like prospect calls, product demonstrations, quotes, number of touches, etc. In addition to sales activity we need to track operational activity to understand how the customer is being cared for. These metrics are useful in accountability as well as continued training. By using the Activity form in Business One we are able to track various activities in real-time as they occur. We leverage simple pre-filled forms as well as integration from our add-on partners to get it done with minimal user effort. Then we use automated reporting to track and validate this data daily so we can be confident in our analysis.

Key Business Benefits:
- Capture Vital Metrics for Customer Engagement by Sales and User Interaction with B1
- Automated Reporting which is Delivered Daily Drives Transparency and Data Validation
- Management gains better insight and control over Sales and Operations

Additional Notes:

Sales call activity can easily be turned into KPIs to manage and motivate sales people

Make Your Upgrade Painless: Best Practices from FOH

Preparing for a patch or version upgrade is not trivial in SAP Business One. A diversity of complex add-ons contribute to this process having many different variables and aligning them all for a successful result is where the preparation has a pay-off.

This process starts by selecting the version you would like to implement along with two possible dates.  The appropriate patch level will be selected only after effective communication with all add-on vendors. It is very important to share why you would like to migrate to that version as well as the new features and positive outcomes this project will have. Validate if the add-on version will be in place by the time you would like to upgrade. It is prudent to avoid implementations at the end of the business quarter and the end of the month.

Select the head of departments for the internal team that will shape your round(s) of testing.  Communicate to them the need to prepare a script for the testing that considers all scenarios that encompass their daily work. Prepare a map for everything included in your SAP Implementation; pinpoint priorities by assigning what cannot wait and what could be broken and fixed after the upgrade.

Implementing a patch or version upgrade can cause serious operational outages during the actual implementation but it will also yield great improvements and additions. Preparation and communication are the main components for having a successful implementation. With thoughtful and organized preparation, you can ensure this process will have positive ROI.

Connect Point-of-Sale and Payment Processes with the Back Office

Streamline business processes across multiple channels. Hear how The Leadbetter Golf Academy (LGA) uses a fully integrated point-of-sale hardware, software, and payment solution from SAP partner Square Inc. based on the SAP Business One application to optimize operational efficiency.

Implementing Square has been an enormously easy transition for LGA, drastically improving their customer service experience. They used to take 7-10 steps to complete a payment with their old system. Now, having a seamless 1, 2, 3 process has made a significant impact on customer service, which always comes first!

Training World Class Golfers Requires a World Class Business

Since 1983, David Leadbetter and the network of Leadbetter Golf Academies (LGA) have delivered world-class instruction to golfers of every ability from Major winners to complete beginners. In 2015 LGA implemented SAP Business One in order to streamline and simplify its systems. The result has seen LGA expand its operation into new territories as well as pioneering new forms of online coaching.

Power of Data Visualization & Analytics

In the last decade, visual analytics has gone mainstream – the time and costs required for professional data visualization and analytics are now low enough that almost any size enterprise can afford it – and can hardly afford to go without.

Data visualization tools allow you to consolidate and clean data from a wide range of sources out of the box including Excel, Google Sheets, HANA, SQL, Salesforce, etc.  Using this functionality, Dynamic Computer Corporation has deployed a range of visualizations that we’re using directly with our Business One data – and now that our data and base reporting is established, our users can do their own self-service data discovery: filtering and slicing to suit individual use cases, in an intuitive, code-free environment, without the need to know HANA or SQL.

More importantly, by delivering data visualization in a cloud-based solution, we put data in the hands of the people that need it, regardless of where they are or whether they’re on a laptop, tablet or mobile phone. Report summaries and links can be delivered directly to an inbox, literally putting actionable insight in users’ hands.

With interactive visualizations that improve both analysis and understanding, people can make better decisions backed by data. What used to take days or weeks to discover (if ever) now takes moments. Join Kathy Burgess, Chief Operating Officer at Dynamic, to learn how you can apply these same techniques that put the power and impact of data visualizations in the hands of your people.

SDL and the Amazing Quest for Fixed Costs

During implementation, we hit a snag with the Bill of Materials (BOMs): We found out far too late that SAP B1 does not do Fixed Costs. We had two challenges, finding a way to get fixed costs into SAP B1, and secondly, try to explain to two SAP partners what a fixed cost is.

Our first partner wanted to charge us a lot of money to implement, even though they did not understand what fixed costs were. After we sacked them, our second partner said it was coming in the next version only to find that fixed assets was coming in the new version, not fixed costs.

When looking for a consultant to fix another problem, the consultant told us to get Boyum B1 UP instead.  We found that gave us the tools to deal with fixed costs. I implemented a solution which makes a new Cost Calculation to take into account Fixed costs.  In this session, I’ll go through that solution.

Key Business Benefits:
- Communicating with SAP Partners clearly
- Understanding the relationship of the Bill of materials to Fixed Costs
- Implementing Fixed Costs in SAP B1 with Boyum B1 UP

Control4 Takes Control of Taxes and Filings & Saves $25k

Control4 had a tax software provider, but it just wasn’t doing taxes right. There was significant compliance Risk because sales transactions were missing from our providers’ database.  We were spending huge amounts of time doing manual data dumps and uploading it back into a database in a CSV format.  Avalara connects directly to SAP so that we could identify invoices that failed to send and upload the ones they need.  Avalara’s reporting environment was more efficient when running reconciliations on taxes.

With Avalara, we have almost instantaneous data rather than waiting days for our data uploads to reflect in the database. Previously, reporting, tax return prep, and payment remits were done by 3 different entities.  Avalara does all 3 of those directly for us.  CertCapture sealed the deal.  We were manually collecting and uploading tax exemption certificates from each of our dealers.  CertCapture allows our dealers to do it on their own. This saves us $25K in person hours and effort to do that.

Key Business Benefits:

  • Reduced Compliance Risk through directly connecting to SAP

  • Reporting - all the data was there almost instantaneously

  • Truly an End to End Tax Solution - Collecting - Reporting - Certification Management - Filing

Buttonize Your Workplace; Creating a Series of Paper Reducing Events (Using B1UP)

Our Service Center has high volumes of serialized repairs. We created a button that automatically creates Customer Equipment Cards and Service Calls based on the data within the A/R Return. Next is automatically creating Sales Quotes/Orders. Essentially adding “Copy-To” functionality to documents where it is normally non-inherent. This has reduced paper usage and time spent processing A/R returns. In this presentation I will outline how we used buttons in a simple way that adds significant value to our business and the improvements of processes that have come as a result if the initiative.

Key Business Benefits:
- Saving Paper and Time: Tools like B1UP allow for quick access to customized data without the need to print and hunt.
- Mitigate Data Entry Errors: Automate data migration with Macros and Validate data using Formatted Searches and Line Loops.
- Uniting Company Direction Though Standardized Dashboards: Creating a Unique template-structure for the B1Dashboards (Inside/Outside Sales, Procurement, Service, Management and Logistics) are all now speaking the same language.

How One Horticulture Business Doubled Online Conversions with E-Commerce

As part of the new generation in a traditionally “old school” industry, Jason Hummert, Director of Marketing at Hummert International, had his work cut out for him. His challenge? To help an 80-year-old family-owned horticulture supplies and equipment distribution company optimize its online sales after decades of success with other channels like in-person sales, radio and print advertising.  While they had a website in place, it offered minimal flexibility and little back-office integration. The weak customer experience wasn’t delivering the sales results Hummert was hoping for, either.

Join this session to hear how choosing an e-commerce platform that directly integrates with their SAP Business One ERP has helped Hummert double their online conversion rate. How? By optimizing their customer experience with advanced segmentation and an enhanced product catalog while also increasing efficiency with improved order processing, fulfillment, and information management for both products and customer accounts.

Key Benifits:

  • The automation provided by e-commerce and SAP Business One integration creates a more efficient organization by eliminating manual and duplicate processes, allowing internal employees to better allocate their time.

  • Providing real-time inventory as a seasonal business better serves client expectations, especially during high volume periods.

  • Using segmentation to deliver a hyper-targeted experience based on client location or demographics allows Hummert to provide an optimal customer experience online.

Teaching an Old Dog New Tricks: Adapting to An Omnichannel Marketplace

The retail landscape has changed. Amazon and other third-party marketplace, have forever changed the way customers interact with brands and buy goods. In this environment, businesses must learn quickly and constantly innovate to compete in this new, omnichannel world of retail.

Vibram Corporation has taken these lessons to heart.

Throughout 2015, as sales shifted away from traditional brick & mortar dealers, consumers were still buying, but they were spending more time doing so online. This shift prompted Vibram to begin selling directly to Amazon by late 2015. They represented a clear opportunity to increase distribution, and spurred Vibram to explore new avenues for distribution via other eComm channels. In 2016, Vibram expanded its EDI portfolio to include dropship capabilities. This became a useful incentive for sales conversations, and allowed Vibram to expand distribution to larger accounts, while also growing their presence at brick & mortar.

With greater exposure to the eComm environment, Vibram realized its own B2C platform was woefully inadequate, and in late 2016, Vibram decided to completely re-tool. By integrating with Demandware, Vibram rebuilt their website, improved UX, and increased data capture resources. Better data revealed a need for improved analytic tools, and Vibram integrated SAP Business Objects (a business intelligence program) in 2017. With automated, on-demand, and ad hoc KPI reporting, Vibram can recognize market trends more quickly, and analyze strategic sales opportunities in real-time.

Good Data Governance is All About Culture: Enable Your Team for Success

Like nearly every other business out there, Happy Family – a leading organic baby food company – was challenged to find a silver bullet for master data governance. The problems included: daily transactional issues, inability to generate reliable reports, financial reporting inaccuracies, inventory imbalances, and reconciliation errors. Users perceived negative progression as they have lost trust in the system and the data quality kept deteriorating.

Dror Fold, currently Director of Business Solution, made it his mission to create the processes and guidance that would enable team members to be successful and generate useful and reliable data. It started by limiting users’ access to setup & master data and looking for the root cause. He automated error checking by placing a query alert just in case the error repeated itself and he made it a point to articulate the problem to the users. By creating a culture of gentle teaching and making sure not to judge users for their mistakes, Dror found that demonstrating errors via a query alert led to a slow but steady increase in data accuracy and reliability. Once a data standard or a rule emerged, Dror could convert the query alert to a SQL store procedure blocker.

Now at Happy Family, there is a company-wide understanding of how the system works, new-found trust in the system, increased collaboration on setting up data standards & processes, and nearly no daily errors. The new culture around data governance has given Happy Family the ability to scale up operations, produce advanced reporting, enhance module functionality and transaction automation. Join Dror in this session to dive into the Best Practices he’s developed and walk away with a game plan for better master data governance in your organization.

The Added Value of SAP Business One in the Cloud

How McRoskey Mattress Automates Payment Acceptance with an IT Staff of 1

McRoskey Mattress Company is a family owned manufacturer and retailer of handcrafted mattresses and box springs.  We wanted one computer solution that could handle all business functions including: multi-location Point of Sale, inventory, warehousing, production (make to stock, make to order), fulfillment, and general ledger.  We chose SAP Business One with two addons 1) Boyum-IT for automation, 2) CBS for all credit card transactions.  As a small company we needed an application that could be supported by an in-house IT staff of one person.  The combination of Vision33, Boyum-IT and CBS has allowed us keep to a staff of one for all technical support needs.

Key Business Benefits:
- Worked within SAP B1, no external interface required
- Processed charges, refunds, and same day voids
- Processed both hand keyed and magnetic swiped transactions

Fulfillment Automation Using EDI: Overcoming the Challenge of Implementation at Samuel Hubbard

At Samuel Hubbard Shoe Company much of our fulfillment process was being done manually.  We were emailing pick tickets to our warehouse, receiving piles of paperwork daily to confirm shipments, and manually editing invoices and emailing to customers. As the business grew and we began working with larger customers, we created an EDI interface setup with Business One to fulfill those orders, but the internal process was time consuming and often resulted in hefty chargebacks due to EDI compliance errors.

The main component of automating our fulfillment was integrating EDI with our warehouse.  We ended up switching EDI companies and fully integrating with our warehouse using EDI 940/945.  In addition, we worked with Business One developers and consultants to automate the creation of pick tickets and invoices, resulting in an overall seamless fulfillment automation process from order to invoice.

As a business user who is self-trained in SAP - and IT in general - the whole process of this implementation left some key takeaways and topics that others could learn from, including:

  • How to best select the vendors and consultants for the project

  • Allocating the proper resources and time internally and externally to complete the project

  • The need for a hands-on approach to project management and development (even down to reviewing XML and EDI code, highlighting the issues and instructing the developers what to fix)

  • Tips for success when working with multiple vendors and stakeholders.

Key Business Outcomes:

  • Fulfillment automation in B1 from the Sales Order to the Invoice – resulting in a dramatic increase in efficiency across multiple internal departments.

  • Increase in EDI compliance with major customers resulting in a dramatic reduction of chargeback fees.

  • A core process foundation in SAP that since stabilized has allowed our company to focus on further automating and improving other SAP B1 processes.

Business One Integration Framework (B1iF): Making the Most of SAP’s Toolbox

In your growing business, it’s increasingly critical to have integration between your different systems and to automate data transfer between existing systems. To optimize daily work and to reduce data inconsistency, you must integrate different data sources. To enable communication between different departments, offices, and even companies its necessary to integrate your business process and functions. Integration is the name of the game and the SAP Business One Integration Framework (B1iF) is the tool that enables your success.

The integration framework for SAP Business One is a collaboration infrastructure. The multiple-purpose solution provides message-oriented middleware, a service bus, Business Process Management, and acts as a data provider for mobile solutions as well as a data consumer. Are you making the best use of this tool within your organization? In this four-hour workshop, you’ll learn from SAP experts how you can successfully use the B1iF to integrate functions, applications, and elements of your business to propel your business forward.

Starting by establishing a baseline understanding of B1iF and its functionality, the workshop will then move into showcasing a real-world integration and you’ll follow along step by step in your own practice environment. The workshop will include multiple examples of integrations and examples of additional functionality within the B1iF like workflow management, managing tasks, and keeping track of multi-step integrations.

Participants are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the B1iF via SAP’s free training course on the fundamentals available through openSAP here: https://open.sap.com/courses/ifb1

This workshop requires some technical competency as a developer and familiarity with SQL.

What are the Problems that can be Solved Through Workflow Automation?

A manual workflow process is prone to error, and time is wasted checking if the process has been completed.  The solution is to automate. Whether your workflow process involves a simple authorization form or a multistage workflow process, if you use the right tools, you can start small but scale quickly.

What are the problems that can be solved through workflow automation?

  • Integration with e-commerce, expense services, marketing, 3PL …

  • Distribution of reports: invoices, statements, weekly sales

  • Inter-company: syncing master data, inter-company trading, financial consolidation

  • Approvals; requisitions, POs, sales quotes

Another key factor in successfully implementing automated workflow is figuring out the process. We will offer tips on how to approach this planning phase.

We will give real-life examples of how customers utilize workflow process with SAP Business One and the success that they have when these are implemented. We will also address the effort to implement this type of solution.

Key Business Benefits:
- Reduced Time and Effort

MRP – Easy as one, two, three.

Are you a business that is still struggling to calculate how much inventory to purchase or produce to ensure you have optimized inventory levels to fulfill demand? Perhaps you’re still handling this manually or even outside of SAP Business One – collecting and analyzing all this data can be an onerous and time-consuming task, especially if you manage thousands of items with various sources of demand.

SAP Business One makes inventory planning easy with its MRP tool (Materials Requirements Planning). This simple yet powerful tool can quickly and effortlessly calculate optimal inventory levels and make purchase order and/or production order recommendation within seconds. It recognizes trends and can produce forecasts based on historical sales data. Moreover, it can consider min/max/required inventory levels, lead times, and consider sales order demand within its MRP calculations.

Let the system do the work. Save time trying to create these complicated calculations manually and eliminate human error. Realize the benefit of consolidated buying power to take advantage of vendor volume pricing. The true benefit of SAP Business One’s MRP tool is ensuring optimal inventory levels so that you can always fulfill sales demand without overstocking inventory.

Convincing Your Sales Team to use SAP: A Story About Integrating Hubspot and Business One

Approximately 8 years ago HTRI purchased their first SAP Business One licenses and embarked on the task of converting the variety of applications, tools, spreadsheets and other processes to all fit within the Business One landscape. Within 3 years the task was complete, well almost complete.

Core Business One did not provide the tools the sales team needed to effectively execute their job. Mobility, automation and tools that our users expect in today’s landscape were not available. After another couple years of no progress, the decision to purchase Hubspot licenses and integrate SAP with a mature Hubspot API was executed.

HTRI launched an integration in the end of May 2018 which includes a tool to handle reconciliation of data between the two systems as well as an extension that surfaces additional data within the Hubspot tool.

Finally, the sales staff is happy.

Key Business Benefits:
- Data from all core areas of our company is now available in one place - SAP
- Sales didn't have to compromise on the tools they feel are necessary to properly execute their job

Game-changing Technology for Business Process Automation

The Legacy Cabinet Company (TLCC) specializes in custom cabinets and countertop design, including installation of those products, The Legacy Cabinet Company is a regional distributor operating in both new residential and commercial construction, as well as custom remodeling projects. Legacy’s headquarters is located in Niceville, Florida and has 6 other locations.

TLCC is committed to excellence in what they do and in the service they provide to their customers. It is this commitment to end to end customer service that was the key driver to looking at internal processes.

One main area for improvement was their “cost/sell” process for order pricing configuration. TLCC had a very complex Excel based order and pricing configurator. Although the Excel spreadsheet had served TLCC well initially, business growth and related complexities dictated the need for a more robust application with business rules and workflow capability that could scale and address additional business improvement opportunities. TLCC asked Configurable Management to automate and streamline the cost/sell process for order configuration and pricing and to interface the application with the existing SAP B1. With “Decisions For SAP Solutions’ BPM” platform, CM worked closely with TLCC’s team to design a web form and workflow solution specific to their business needs. Now, business users can maintain and edit order configuration and resolve business process problems without burdening IT. Faster resolution, accurate data pass to SAP B1, faster fulfillment, leading to improved customer service and a reduction in order processing costs.

Key Business Benefits:
- Scale for business growth
- Custom application development

Business Agility & the Power of Visibility in Project Management.

As more business teams are embracing certain aspects of agility, SAP Business One Project Management does not currently support the option to practice agile methods or cultivate an agile mindset. We needed a flexible system to uphold our agile processes and enable all project stakeholders with high visibility into the ongoing progress of a project to drive engagement and customer satisfaction.

We solved the issue by closely integrating SAP Business One Project Management with Tuleap (KB1PMOS, a Project Management Office Suite) to allow access to all project stakeholders (SAP Business One user or not), team members, managers, project sponsors, clients, etc.,  and ease communication of goals and objectives, views and approvals of documents/features/change requests, and feedback in one central location no matter where they are.

As a result, team productivity, project control and time to market has increased while project risk, time spent on follow ups, progress updates, and meetings has decreased. Consistent project retrospectives have greatly influenced and improved the quality of our work and overall project outcome.

Key Business Benefits:
- Secure Internal & External Communication / Document Sharing. With KB1PMOS (SAP Business One and Tuleap), we created a funnel for communication and discussion concerning tasks and projects both internally and externally with clients and other stakeholders. Easy and secure document sharing outside of SAP Business One in one central location enables people to find project related information which enables transparency.
- Effective Project Risk & Cost Management. In order to estimate cost effectively, we use tools to identify risk and a range of trackers to monitor the status of activities that help us stay informed and determine corrective action.
- Enhanced Customer Satisfaction. Continues involvement and engagement with the customer throughout a project enables us to learn about the wants and needs, improve as we go and be responsive to change, creating loyalty, trust and the desired outcome in the process.

Vision Engraving Saves $200k by Making Business One Faster & Better with Configurator

Vision Engraving & Routing Systems sells CNC machines with numerous options and additions that often change depending on other options and additions. In addition, the Pet tag side of the business has well over 2,000 different varieties of tags for customers. Initially all of this was done with the knowledge of the employees and time. In sales it could take 20 – 30 minutes to create a quote for a customer and many times sales had the right “ideas” but the wrong part numbers and pricing. Identifying and fixing all the errors could take days to complete.

When we implemented SAP we implemented a configuration add on from Experlogix. This reduced the time and errors even further than the spreadsheet but was a separate database that we had to maintain. Finally, we implemented CIS Configurator and its direct connection to SAP eliminates maintaining the separate database with part numbers and different pricing structures.

Sales produced 5,941 quotes in 2017 and it takes an average of 2 minutes to complete a quote.  Given the 20-30 minutes with the old method we saved over 2,000 hours of work or almost one full time person.  Tech support produced 7,471 quotes last year and even at the conservative savings of 30 minutes each that saved over 3,700 hours.  That is another 1.5 full time employees.  Considering salary and benefits for 2.5 to 3 employees that is a savings of almost $150,000 per year.  Add on the time saved by eliminating errors and that number is probably over $200,000 per year.

Key Business Benefits:
- Saves over $200,00 per year
- Saves over 5,000 hours per year
- Eliminates errors and reduces training requirements
